Originally released back in 1983, Australian heavy metal band, Black Alice, are something of a cult band in their homeland. This re-issue of ‘Endangered Species’ will no doubt have proper heavy metal fans across the world reaching for their credit cards. Although its easy to hear why they didn’t really take off in a big way first time out, the tracks aren’t without raw charm. Vocalist Rob Hartly has the kind of chest-beating voice that fits this type of primitive metal perfectly. Whilst I don’t see it being any more than a collector’s curio, its difficult to not get caught up in the nascent rage of cuts like ‘Power Crazy’ and ‘Hell Hath No Fury’. – Mik Gaffney
